Facebook Support after account suspensions.

Last Friday, without warning Facebook suspend my personal account,  an account I have had for over 12 years. Ive never had any warnings or breeches of the community guidelines before, so to see the below image was a bit of a surprise, especially as this was a permanent disablement of my account and not just the temporary Facebook ‘ jail’ you frequently see users having.

I was greeted with the following message:

We’ve suspended your account

Some of your previous posts or comments didn’t follow our Community Standards.

It’s a very generic message, which doesn’t give any information which would help understand which (If any) of my previous posts or comments were so severe that I warranted a complete suspension.

Ignoring the fact I have business pages and advertising spend for a moment, all users on Facebook are customers, Without Facebooks users, the company has nothing. The expectation that it’s acceptable to disable accounts without providing and evidence or even showing the post is completely unacceptable.

The implications of how a suspension of removal of your Facebook account can have varies on how many of the Meta services you use. Currently I cant access my profile, photos, messages / messenger, any of my business pages I own, or any of the customer messages sent to those pages but most importantly ANY of my data that the company stores.

Depending on how you use facebook the impact will be different to mine, but if like a huge amount of its users you use facebook to store memories or photos, you will run the very real risk of loosing them all if the disablement appeal is rejected. Let’s make this clear, if they reject the appeal your data, photos, messages, memories, everything will be gone!

Business Pages

Small business owners need to be aware that they will not be able to access any of the Facebook / Meta business tools if their personal account gets disabled. If your business page only has one admin, you need to be concerned, especially if you use business pages and business messenger for communications with your customers. It appears that if your personal account gets a permanent ban you will no longer be able to use your business page or get access to it – even with a new personal account. The lack of compassion and understanding of its users is shocking, Business users are the bread and butter of facebook, and the revenue they receive so it seems quite bizarre they treat customers in this way.

The review process

I was faced with a single button. “Disagree with Decision”. I pressed it hopping to be able to make my case, or to be able to try and get more details about why my account was facing a ban… However typically with a company who doesn’t seem to care about its customers all i had was this :

No time frame, no information, no contact details, no way to make a case nothing, just a wait and see limbo.

You might think that i’m over reacting, that i deserve what i’m getting because i broke the rules. Well maybe but who knows … i don’t. In the proceeding few days to my ban nothing was posted on my account by me, and my business pages, so its highly unlikely that rules were broken… Unless… In the three days before my ban i started receiving Facebook account recovery codes, which i hadn’t requested ( These mails contain a link to say if you didn’t request them, which i did on each occasion), so clearly someone or something was trying to get into my account, the day before the account was disabled Facebook even made me change my password. So is this a possibility ? Did manage to get in and post something against the Community Standards? – This is my biggest issue with the review and lack of any kind of communication in this situation, I use Facebook on three devices, my iPhone, My Mac and my Windows Laptop. Usually from one of three fixed networks or via my phone on 4G, in the uk in the same locations. Not forgetting the fact the suspension had happened over night while i slept here in the UK. I could easily show that the reason for disabling my account was an error. If anyone would listen.

The Help pages

If you have ever tried to get Facebook help I would say like me you ended up getting fed up of the endless loops and generic no specific answers that don’t help anything. Having researched online there is no Facebook Live Chat option ( despite the promote messenger for business as a brilliant way for communicating with customers they don’t use it themselves, there are some publicly available email address that some people have had luck with, currently 5 days later I have had no response from any of the emails i have sent.

My Investigation

I never believed that Facebook / Meta could treat its users with such distain, so with no expectations to change anything I am trying to build a picture of how bad this problem actually is, i have already seen reports of business page users having issues with advertising and having pages blocked at will and been left in the review limbo. What Needs to change !

  • When a ban is put in place the user needs to receive more details about the specific posts / comments that caused the ban
  • If bans are necessary for genuine reasons, a way for users to still have access to their business pages needs to be found.
  • Human contact, Business users especially need to be able to speak to an actual human easily.
